A four member delegate of SIE staff including a teacher from iEARN member school participated in 2018 iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit from 09th – 14th July, 2017. The conference sessions were held at John Handley High School, Winchester, Virginia, United States of America for participants who were accommodated at Shenandoah University just two miles away from conference venue.
The theme for the iEARN 2018 Conference and Youth Summit was “Global Collaboration for Sustainable Development”, which provided an opportunity for more than 400 educators and students from more than 50 countries to connect over education and services across the globe.
This year iEARN celebrated its 30th anniversary to show worlds largest network of teachers and students who work for global collaboration by connecting through technology to work on projects that have a positive impact on the planet, their countries, and their communities. These projects that have changed the world while also envisioning a future where educators and youth work together to build a more peaceful and sustainable planet.
Through out the conference, the educators and students from more than 50 countries around the world attended workshops and session on different topics. they also shared their experiences and learned more about the use of technologies in education to reach out, learn and build a better world together.
A memorial session was held to pay tribute to Dr.Tonya S. Muro, Executive Director iEARN USA for her untimely death on March 5th. In her memory, The Tonya Muro Leadership Award was established, and four scholarships have been awarded to exemplary educators and youth from Ugunda, USA, Tanzania and Argentina to attend the 2018 iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit.
The members of Pakistani delegates attended iEARN Assembly Meeting held prior to conference on 7th and 8th July. They also presented workshops sessions during conference which were appreciated by conference participants. Sessions done by other educators were also very informative and gave new ideas, opening doors for future collaborations.
The five day conference included cultural excursions to Shenandoah Valley, International cultural night, Interactive workshops keynotes and plenaries by other organizations working in the field of global education and virtual exchange. The event was very well organized with exceptional support from volunteers and community members from Winchester City to make this event worth experiencing. The event concluded with a closing ceremony and gala dinner on 13th July, 2018.
